Massimo Meregalli and Livio Suppo give their views on the dramatic final chicane incident between Rossi and Marquez at Saturday’s Dutch GP.

The paddock has been abuzz with discussion and debate about Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) and Valentino Rossi’s (Movistar Yamaha) thrilling battle at the Motul TT Assen. Dicing down to the final chicane, the pair touched and Rossi was sent wide being forced to run across the gravel trap. Both riders went to Race Direction to review the incident after the race where it was determined a ‘racing incident’ by Mike Webb and Race Direction.
Now team principals Massimo Meregalli and Livio Suppo give their opinions on the incident as the dust settles in Assen.

Massimo Meregalli (Movistar Yamaha Team Director): “I had doubts when the incident happened. But when I saw the slow motion the result was right from Race Direction. First of all Valentino was in front and Marc couldn’t pass him where he tried and then when he touched Vale the only think he could do was stand the bike up and go straight.”

Livio Suppo (Repsol Honda Team Principal): “Race Direction decided it was a racing incident so we respect the decision and we go to Sachsenring with a good feeling because Marc feels good on the bike and this is very important. It’s useless to say ‘if if if’. The real mistake that caused the incident was with a few laps to go when Marc exited the final chicane and went a little bit out and touched the gravel. So then he lost contact with Valentino and it was impossible to stay with him but he did an unbelievable last lap. I think he recovered something like 0.4s which is very good because Valentino, with one lap to go, did his best lap time which was also amazing. They both did a great job and that’s racing!”
