After several strong Qualifying results before the break, Rossi starts a disappointing eighth for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.
It was a less than ideal start to the weekend for Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) who ended Friday down in 10th position. As ever Rossi and his hardworking crew made overnight improvements which had the legendary Italian fighting closer to the front, but the situation was still less than ideal. The start of Q2 saw Rossi return directly to the pits after his out lap as he tested a new tyre.
His first flying lap saw him in the top three and returned to the pits. Like his Movistar Yamaha MotoGP teammate, Rossi implemented a three run strategy but was unable to improve his grid position and eventually ended the session down in eighth. Fortunately for Rossi on two of the previous occasions he has started eighth he has gone on to win.

Valentino Rossi: “Yesterday I was very slow and a bit worried, and we didn‘t start with a good base setting. Today the situation has improved, especially my pace is not so bad. In FP4 I was in fourth position and I raised my level and my potential a lot and also the life of the tyre is longer, but unfortunately in qualifying I wasn‘t strong enough to start from the second row. I hit traffic, made mistakes and I have to start from the third row. This is a big problem because I‘m not very fast here and we still have some problems with the bike that we have to improve, we have to make a step for tomorrow. I think fighting for the podium tomorrow will be hard, because Marc and Jorge are very strong, but at this track like at Sachsenring also Dani is very fast, so it will be difficult.”
