We suffer a little bit too much in braking

After a somewhat sluggish start to the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas, Valentino Rossi recovers for sixth overall.
Free Practice 1 saw Valentino Rossi set a 2’06.252 and end the session in seventh place. This didn’t worry experienced Italian as he had devoted the majority of the session to improving the performance of the rear tyre. The work continued over into the second session of the day, Rossi able to almost immediately improve his time in Free Practice 2. He would conclude the session in sixth place having set 2’04.974, 1.3 seconds faster than his morning time. Rossi would also conclude the day in sixth overall, 0.940s back on the session leader but only 0.073s behind his Movistar Yamaha MotoGP teammate Jorge Lorenzo.
‘The Doctor’ had tried to improve his time on his final run but made two mistakes, which destroyed the lap time. With 20 corners, even a small mistake can destroy a lap at the Circuit of the Americas and force a rider to circulate for over two minutes before they get another chance to improve. Rossi is also eagerly awaiting the arrival of the hard rear tyre, scheduled to arrive on Saturday directly from Michelin in France. Tyres will play a crucial role in the race, Yamahas having historically encountered major issues with tyre wear at the Texas track.
Valentino Rossi: “The second session was not so bad. I was quite fast from the beginning and we tried something on the bike in the last run, but unfortunately I made two mistakes and I was not able to do a good lap. If I hadn‘t made the mistakes, I would have been able to stay closer to the front. I had quite a good potential because I‘m quite fast everywhere, but unfortunately we suffer a little bit too much in braking so we need to work to try to improve this part, because it‘s very easy to make mistakes. We need to understand the tyres. We have to wait for the hard rear that arrives tomorrow. Our decision on the front tyre is also still very open, we have three tyres to choose from. It will be difficult and I think the tyres will make the difference and will be key for the race.”
